Lexington, Kty.-based Lexmark International said Monday that it paid $37 million in cash for image viewing, distribution, sharing and collaboration software manufacturer Claron Technology.

Claron’s medical image viewing platform provides internet-based access to patient images from picture archiving and communications systems or vendor neutral archives, allowing providers to view information from anywhere in their organization and collaborate in real time, Lexmark says.

The universal viewer supports all cleared digital imaging and communications, and allows for both 2D and 3D viewing, according to Lexmark. The system also runs without the need to download software.

Claron will be part of Lexmark’s Perceptive Software unit. The Toronto company’s surgical navigation unit was not part of the deal and will operate under a new name, Claronav. — Kellen Owings
