TGA Taking Over on Advertising Complaints
Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration will take over responsibility for considering all complaints about therapeutic goods advertisements directed at consumers under a simplified complaint system.
Making the agency a one-stop-shop for receiving, managing and acting on advertising complaints is intended to speed complaint resolution, and better protect the public from inferior or false advertising, the agency said.
Currently, complaints about medical product advertising are divided among the Complaints Resolution Panel, multiple peak therapeutic goods industry associations, and the TGA.
The new system, which goes into effect July 1, 2018, will be externally reviewed after three years to confirm it is effective.
