The World Health Organization prequalified four active pharmaceutical ingredients in November — atazanavir (sulfate), piperaquine (phosphate), linezolid and emtricitabine.
Atazanavir is manufactured by Macleods Pharmaceuticals at its Gujarat, India, facility for use in HIV/AIDS therapies.
Piperaquine is manufactured by Chongqing Kangle Pharmaceutical and is used to treat malaria.
Linezolid, also manufactured by Macleods at its Gujarat facility, is intended for use as a tuberculosis treatment.
Emtricitabine, manufactured by Mangalam Drugs & Organics at its Gujarat, India, facility, is also used in the treatment of HIV/AIDS.
