A Senate appropriations subcommittee approved a fiscal year 2019 budget bill Tuesday that includes $5.4 billion for the FDA — a $292 million increase from FY2018.

The bill advanced by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA and Related Agencies would give the agency $2.97 billion in discretionary funding. It includes $88.5 million for various medical product initiatives and $59 million for fighting opioid addiction, as well as $70 million for implementing the 21st Century Cures Act.

The full Senate appropriations committee will consider the bill on Thursday.
