Patients for Affordable Drugs Warns Against Reducing Pharma Contribution to Medicare
Patients for Affordable Drugs warned 50 Democratic lawmakers against efforts to roll back drugmakers’ contributions to Medicare, citing a letter the representatives sent to House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) urging actions the advocacy group says would let drugmakers off the hook for the Medicare “donut hole.”
The Medicare “cliff” that will cause out-of-pocket costs to spike in 2020 should be addressed by making drugmakers pay more rather than less, the organization said.
The most recent Congressional budget deal holds drug corporations responsible for 70 percent of prescription drug costs in the donut hole beginning next year, a 20 percent increase.
