FDA Approves First Suboxone Generic for Treating Opioid Dependence

The FDA signed off on the first generic versions of Indivior’s Suboxone (buprenorphine and naloxone) sublingual films for the treatment of opioid addiction.
The generic treatments developed by Dr. Reddy’s and Mylan treat opioid dependence in adults by reversing and blocking the effects of opioids.
Patients addicted to opioids who successfully transition onto medicines like buprenorphine, “aren’t swapping one addiction for another, as is sometimes unfortunately said,” FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in a statement announcing the approvals.
