Boston Scientific announced that it intends to buy Cryterion Medical’s approximately 65 percent remaining stake and its cryoablation device for $202 million.

The acquisition of the device will make Boston Scientific the first company to have both cryothermal and radiofrequency single-shot, balloon-based ablation therapies in its portfolio.

Single-shot ablation therapies, which deliver blasts of heat or cold to areas of the heart responsible for abnormal rhythm, are thought to be the fastest-growing subcategory in the global electrophysiology market.
