Cerenovus’ Stent Retriever for Ischemic Stroke Cleared
The FDA granted J&J devicemaker Cerenovus the go-ahead for its Embotrap II revascularization device, a stent retriever that extracts blood clots from the brain.
The device is intended to treat patients who have had an ischemic stroke, which occur when an artery within the brain is blocked. It quickly restores blood flow in the brain by grasping and removing the blood clots causing blockage.
The mechanical thrombectomy device is indicated for use within eight hours of the onset of stroke symptoms.
