Robotics Firm Corindus Will Merge With Siemens in Billion Dollar Deal
Siemens Healthineers has reached an agreement to acquire Corindus Vascular Robotics for approximately $1.1 billion.
The acquisition means Siemens will get its hands on Corindus’ CorPath platform, the first FDA-cleared device for robotic-assisted vascular interventions. Physicians control the device in a radiation-shielded workstation using touchscreen controls and joysticks.
The merger “has the potential to transform the way healthcare is delivered to those suffering from cardiovascular or peripheral disease,” says Corindus CEO Mark Toland.
