Teva Launches Generic Version of EpiPen for Children as Shortage Continues
Teva Pharmaceutical has launched its generic version of Mylan’s EpiPen Jr. (epinephrine) auto-injector 0.15mg at a wholesale cost of $300 per two-pack.
Teva received approval to market generic versions of Mylan’s epinephrine autoinjectors for both adults and children in August 2018 after several years of delays in getting the generics approved.
Mylan launched its own generic in December 2016 at a wholesale price of $300 for a two-pack of the 0.3 mg product — more than 50 percent lower than its branded EpiPen product.
The actual retail cost for adult and junior versions of the generics varies widely depending on where they are purchased, the available discounts or coupons and the buyers’ insurance coverage for the prescription drug.
