The European Commission has named Stella Kyriakides to serve as its next health commissioner.

Kyriakides is a medical psychologist with experience in health and cancer prevention. She is currently a member of the House of Representatives in Cyprus and head of the Cyprus delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Kyriakides will be replacing another Cypriot politician, Christius Stylianides. The appointment must first be confirmed by the European Parliament.
