EMA Advises Continued Use of Heart Meds During the Pandemic
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has reiterated that patients taking blood pressure and heart medications should continue to take them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The agency said 20 recently published studies on the use of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) have not shown that the drugs have any negative impact on the outcome for patients with COVID-19.
The EMA said it will continue to monitor the latest data on the use of medicines during the pandemic in collaboration with other regulators and international organizations to provide advice on the safe use of medicines.
