WHO Discontinues Two Arms of COVID-19 Solidarity Trial
The World Health Organization (WHO) has discontinued the hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir arms of its multinational Solidarity Trial after finding the antiviral drugs provide little benefit on the mortality rates of COVID-19 patients.
Interim results showed that the drugs provided little or no reduction in mortality for hospitalized COVID-19 patients compared to the standard of care.
The WHO said the trial also identified adverse events associated with the drugs that will be reviewed.
