FDA OKs Abbott’s Implantable Heart Rhythm Devices
The FDA has approved Abbott’s Gallant implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) devices for patients with heart rhythm disorders.
ICDs are used to reduce the risks of arrythmia while CRT-Ds are used to restore natural heartbeat patterns for patients with heart failure or in situations where the heart’s chambers beat out of sync.
The two devices enable remote monitoring by using Bluetooth technology to communicate with smartphone apps, the company said.
