Thermo Fisher Scientific’s molecular test for COVID-19, the TaqPath COVID-19 MS2 Combo Kit 2, has received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the FDA.

The polymerase chain-reaction-based test, which uses nasal swab samples, targets three areas of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.  

The three targeted genetic areas used in the test are unique to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which reduces the detection of other coronaviruses, the company said.
