Federal Judge Dismisses Medtronic Infusion Pump Case
A federal judge in Indiana dismissed a suit against Medtronic that alleged the company’s faulty SynchromMed II implantable infusion pump had caused the plaintiff multiple hospitalizations.
U.S. District Court Judge Theresa L. Springman granted Medtronic’s motion for summary judgment, effectively ending a five-year legal battle to prove that Medtronic was negligent in the device’s design and manufacture.
Judge Springman wrote in her ruling that the plaintiff had “failed to present an issue of material fact that would require a trial.”
The judge said Medtronics presented documentation that the FDA had approved its devices and “provided evidence that the devices in question passed each test designed to align them with FDA requirements.”
