Israel-based IceCure has gained a U.S. patent for its Prosense System cryogen pump that is designed to destroy tumors by freezing.

The liquid nitrogen pump enables temperature control of the probe during surgery and is designed to be used for multiple procedures or longer duration procedures without the need to refill the liquid nitrogen.

The U.S. patent will be in effect until 2040. The device was recently patented in the European Union and Japan.

The company plans to use the patented technology to develop other cryoablation systems with a small footprint for a wide range of clinical applications.
