CMS ISSUES NEW QUALITY STANDARDS FOR DMEPOS
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Aug. 15 it has published new quality standards for suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS).
The agency said it received more than 5,600 comments on the draft quality standards and made "significant revisions" to reduce the burden on small suppliers.
Those revisions include:
Eliminating "unnecessary specificity" and redundancy;
Clarifying the requirements for performance management; and
Reducing the number of product-specific standards.
