Sanofi-Aventis Wins Plavix Patent Case
A Canadian court has ruled Canada's largest generic drug manufacturer can't introduce a generic version of sanofi-aventis SA's blockbuster drug Plavix in Canada. Canada's Federal Court issued the ruling preventing Apotex Inc. from selling a version of the top-selling blood-thinning drug. Apotex spokesman Elie Betito said confirmed the ruling and said the company planned to appeal. Sanofi-aventis said in a release the Canadian court rejected Apotex's challenge to the Plavix patent and held that the asserted claims are novel, not obvious and infringed.
