THERAGENICS TO CLOSE FACILITIES, EXIT CERTAIN BUSINESSES
Theragenics Corp. will restructure to focus on its two main lines of business -- brachytherapy seeds and medical device product lines from its recently acquired CP Medical subsidiary. Theragenics (NYSE: TGX) will close its facility in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and its Newton Terrace facility in Buford, Ga., cutting a total of 23 jobs. Theragenics wants to sell its interests in the Oak Ridge facility. Theragenics also will discontinue its radiochemical activities, and its research and development activities relating to the plasma separation process technology and the vascular, macular degeneration, and breast cancer areas.
