Pfizer Gets Split Decision In Lipitor Patent Ruling

Pfizer got a partial victory in the legal battle over its patent of atorvastatin — the active ingredient in Pfizer’s cholesterol drug Lipitor — when a U.S. appeals court upheld the exclusivity of the main patent covering atorvastatin. However, the court struck down a second patent covering the crystalline form of atorvastatin that is sold as Lipitor, Pfizer said Aug. 2.
