PURDUE SECURES TIES TO PHARMACEUTICALS
With the flourish of a few pens, Purdue University cemented a partnership with
Eli Lilly and Co. that will make the Chao Center for Industrial Pharmacy and
Contract Manufacturing the sole U.S. producer of a drug that fights tuberculosis.
The contract, signed Thursday during the dedication ceremony for the 12,000
square-foot, $6.5 million center, specifies that Purdue will manufacture Seromycin,
a generic of the antibiotic Cycloserine one of only four drugs proven
effective against often deadly forms of what is known as multidrug-resistant
tuberculosis.
