MICROBES PROFIT AS NEW DRUGS STAGNATE
Life-threatening diseases are becoming more drug-resistant while the development of new drugs is stagnating, medical school scientists have warned. The Infectious Diseases Society of America published a list of six microbes for which it said doctors had "an inadequate medicine cabinet." The group also repeated a 2004 call for the US Congress to fund more drug research.
