PAIR CONVICTED ON EYE DEVICES

Two executives of a Mundelein company were convicted Thursday of fraudulently selling unapproved surgical sterilizing devices that led to several patients going blind in one eye. Ross Caputo, 57, and Robert Riley, 59, of AbTox Inc. were convicted in federal court in Chicago of seven counts of wire and mail fraud, seven counts of selling an adulterated or misbranded device, and conspiracy to defraud the FDA. Riley was also convicted of one count of obstruction of justice for lying to the FDA.
