Neimeth Objects to Being Named in Trovan Suits

November 5, 2007

Neimeth International protested being named a defendant in the Nigerian suit against Pfizer for deaths in the 1996 Trovan antibiotic trials.

Ambrose Ojiakor, Neimeth’s chairman of the board of directors, said the company’s current CEO, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, was a Pfizer employee in 1996 and acted in accordance with instructions from his employer. He did not act in his personal capacity, according to Nigerian newspaper This Day.

Ojiakor noted that Neimeth did not exist as a corporate or legal entity in 1996 when the trials were conducted, adding the company has discovered new drugs and conducted trials following proper protocols.
