Eisai to Acquire MGI Pharma

Japan’s Eisai has agreed to purchase MGI Pharma, a Bloomington, Ind.-based biopharmaceutical company that focuses on oncology and acute care, for approximately $3.9 billion.

Eisai expects that this transaction will help it grow in the U.S. market and strengthen its oncology business platform.

The acquisition is expected to close during the first quarter of 2008, according to Eisai.
