Expert: Retail Drug Spending Report May Point to Other Savings

A government report that shows retail prescription drug spending grew less in 2007 because of more generic prescriptions, consumer safety concerns and slower price increases also indicates the consumer savings potential if Congress creates a path for generic biologics approval. Retail prescription drug spending increased 4.9 percent to $227.5 billion in 2007, the slowest rate of growth since 1963, according to the report.
