University Responds to Probe, Orthopedic Industry Cautious

As a result of a Senate investigation into its financial ties with industry, the University of Wisconsin at Madison is toughening its conflict-of-interest policies to require its physicians to disclose specific dollar amounts of payments they receive from device and drug companies. Meanwhile, the North American Spine Society updated its disclosure policies requiring its members and nonmembers to disclose the actual dollar amounts of all relationships held with device companies.
