Smith & Nephew Wins Patent Infringement Case

February 3, 2009
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled in favor of Smith & Nephew in a patent infringement lawsuit with KCI. The court upheld a trial court judgment that Smith & Nephew’s gauze-based Versatile 1 negative pressure wound therapy system does not infringe on KCI’s patents. The system is marketed by Blue Sky, which was acquired by Smith & Nephew in May 2007, according to a company statement.
