FDA May Tighten Test Standards for Contact Lenses, Solution

Testing for contact lenses and cleaning solutions could become more stringent after the FDA revises its guidance for the products, an agency official says. A panel of experts met with FDA officials at a public workshop last week to discuss stricter standards for contact lens test methods to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of certain products. An FDA advisory panel, which met last June, suggested stronger label warnings about infections and recommended stricter testing.
