Teva, Ranbaxy Launch Generic Imitrex

February 11, 2009
Teva and Ranbaxy have both launched their generic versions of GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Imitrex, but Teva might have an advantage because it can offer customers 25-, 50- and 100-mg dosages of the product while Ranbaxy can offer only the 100-mg strength. Ranbaxy could have introduced its generic last December, but good manufacturing practice compliance problems and an FDA import alert for two of its plants in India delayed approval of the product. The company was forced to transfer its manufacturing site for generic Imitrex to New Jersey-based Ohm Laboratories, a subsidiary.
