Trial Sites Should Be Prepared for Premature Shutdowns

February 11, 2009
Clinical sites must know what steps they are required to take if a study is halted prematurely — an occurrence that is happening more frequently given the economy. While closing a trial before it is completed is not ideal, it is becoming more of a reality. “During these difficult economic times, there is growing concern of clinical studies that are begun with inadequate funds to complete them,” Christine Pierre, president of the RxTrials Institute, said. “That puts patients at risk unnecessarily without even the benefit of contributing to the body of knowledge of science.”
