Thoratec Buys Heart Pump Maker for $282 Million

Thoratec has agreed to acquire HeartWare International for roughly $282 million. HeartWare will receive about 50 percent of the purchase price in cash, and roughly 50 percent will be paid in shares of Thoratec common stock. The combined company will provide cardiac devices such as ventricular assist systems, the companies said.
