IBM, Google Deal to Boost Market for Remote Monitoring Devices

February 16, 2009
While a new partnership between IBM and Google could jump-start the market for remote monitoring devices, manufacturers will have to agree on standards to avoid incompatibility issues and work quickly to update their products. IBM’s new software enables devices, such as glucose meters and blood-pressure cuffs, to automatically stream data into a patient’s Google Health account, which serves as a personal online health record. The system could be used for patient monitoring, screening and routine evaluating so health professionals can provide more timely feedback to patients.
