Two PML Deaths Confirmed in Patients Taking Raptiva

February 20, 2009
Two patients who took Genentech’s psoriasis drug Raptiva for more than three years have died of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a rare brain infection, and a third person who may have had the disease died of unknown causes. In addition, a nonfatal case of PML has been confirmed, Genentech says in a letter sent to healthcare providers. The four cases were reported between September 2008 and last month, FDA spokeswoman Karen Mahoney said.
