Medtronic’s ICD Sales Stabilize, Company Succeeds in Lawsuits

Despite numerous setbacks, sales of Medtronic’s implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICD) are no longer decreasing and its implant market appears strong, according to company executives. Medtronic’s plan to cut more than $1 billion in costs within the next three years has helped counteract slow growth in the market, the company said. The company’s ICD segment is rebounding from last year when lawsuits over faulty defibrillators accompanied weak sales in its cardiac rhythm management systems.
