European Commission Regulators Approve Sanofi-Zentiva Deal

The European Commission will permit Sanofi-Aventis’ proposed acquisition of Czech generic-drug maker Zentiva. To satisfy European regulatory authorities, Sanofi has agreed to divest 15 drugs to eliminate potential antitrust concerns, including treatments for cardiovascular disease in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Estonia and the Czech and Slovak republics. The products generated roughly $23.1 million in revenue in 2007, according to a Sanofi statement.
