Wholesalers and pharmacists would be allowed to import prescription drugs from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Switzerland and countries in the EU under legislation referred to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee for consideration. Sens. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) introduced the bill. The legislation, S. 525, would amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
