FDA Approves Cardiac Adhesion Barrier for Pediatric Use

March 9, 2009
SyntheMed has received FDA approval for its Repel-CV cardiac adhesion barrier to reduce the severity of adhesions in children undergoing open-heart surgery. Cardiac adhesions are bands of scar tissue that may develop after surgery and may complicate additional surgical treatment. The product serves as a synthetic absorbable film barrier that is inserted over the heart before a surgeon closes the chest after surgery, the FDA says in a statement.
