AdvaMed Sets Guidelines for DTC Ads Amid Criticism From Lawmakers

Devicemakers should submit direct-to-consumer (DTC) TV ads to the FDA when they are broadcast and make sure that healthcare professionals are educated about the products before the ads are launched, according to new industry guidelines. In an attempt to address recent congressional criticisms of DTC device ads, AdvaMed released advertising standards, saying they go beyond federal requirements. AdvaMed’s guidelines cover all device DTC ads, including broadcast, print and internet.
