Industry Urges Senate to Follow House Lead in Extending SBIR

With an eye on the clock, devicemakers are pushing the Senate to quickly follow the House’s lead in passing legislation to extend the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which is set to expire July 31. The House voted 386–41 Wednesday to pass the Enhancing Small Business Research and Innovation Act of 2009, H.R. 2965, which would extend SBIR and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program through 2011. Without an extension, STTR will end Sept. 30.
