Physician Sues Stentmaker for Patent Infringement

Bruce Saffran has hauled Abbott Laboratories to court for infringing his patent through the marketing of its coronary stent systems, including the Xience V system. Saffran, a New Jersey radiologist, owns the ’760 patent that claims a method and apparatus for managing macromolecular distribution. He accuses Abbott of willful infringement and asks the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas to award him treble damages, according to court documents.
