FDA Clears Test for Ovarian Cancer

Vermillion received clearance from the FDA for its OVA1 blood test that helps physicians decide what type of surgery should be performed for women with a pelvic mass that is known to require surgery, an FDA statement says. OVA1 tests for levels of five proteins that change due to ovarian cancer and then combines the results to indicate the likelihood that the pelvic mass is benign or malignant, according to the statement.
