Philippines Imposes Price Cuts on Brand Drugs

September 30, 2009
The Philippines has imposed price controls on several brand drugs for diseases that are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the country. The drugs, including Pfizer’s hypertension drug Norvasc (amlodipine besylate) and Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) to treat high cholesterol levels, will now be sold at 50 percent of their cost before the new policy took place, the Philippines Department of Health says in a statement.
