Industry: Company Responsibility Unclear in Use of Social Media
November 18, 2009
Industry,
trade groups and patient advocacy groups had one request for the FDA at a public hearing on the use of social media to promote medical products: Provide
guidance, especially on corporate responsibility of third-party content. “User-generated content should not be treated the same as company-generated
content,” Elizabeth Forminard, senior counsel at Johnson & Johnson, said at the public hearing. “It’s not promotional advertising
or labeling, and there’s no regulatory basis to hold a company accountable for a third party.”
