Senate Healthcare Overhaul Bill Trims Device Tax to $2 Billion

The Senate’s latest $849 billion healthcare overhaul legislation halves the device industry tax proposed in an earlier Senate version, matching the annual $2 billion tax included in the bill passed by the House. The bill, unveiled last week, combines elements of healthcare measures passed by two Senate committees. Legislation proposed by the Senate Finance Committee called for $4 billion in device fees per year, but the version passed by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee didn’t include any fee.
