Lack of Financial Disclosure Weakens Device Ethics Code

Adopting AdvaMed’s code of ethics is a good first step, but devicemakers need to address financial conflicts of interest with physicians to avoid
legal action. “On the enforcement side, I haven’t seen a large impact” from AdvaMed’s code, Kirk Ogrosky, deputy chief of the Justice
Department’s Fraud Section, Criminal Division, said. However, companies will benefit from adopting it. “Our efforts tend to look at adoption
as a good first step and outward sign,” he said.
