GHTF Releases Discussion Paper in Advance of UDI Guidance

When a global unique device identification (UDI) system is developed, it should consist of a unique code using a globally accepted standard format, the Global Harmonization Task Force (GHTF) says in a discussion paper posted on its website this month. The system should not be restricted to a particular method of automatic identification and data capture as it must be able to accommodate most methods of labeling, marking and identifying products. Comments on the paper are due March 31, 2010.
