Grassley Pushes for More Disclosure, New Jersey Proposes State Rules

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has stepped up his inquiry into potential conflicts of interest between industry and physicians. His latest inquiry into industry payments to groups such as the American Medical Association could result in devicemakers changing their financial relationships with the medical community, Steven Miles, a professor at the Center for Bioethics at the University of Minnesota Medical School, said. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Division of Consumer Affairs has released recommendations placing the burden of disclosure of industry payments on physicians.
