Experts: Foreign Corrupt Practices Targeted by US
January 6, 2010
Pharmaceutical companies will face an increase in
indictments as the U.S. Justice Department begins zeroing in on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations in the industry, Robert Bennett of the Bennett
Law Firm said. Jennifer Bragg, a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, said the risk of
violations probably will be greater in countries with broad government-funded healthcare plans where physicians are paid by the government. A company’s
financial relationships with those physicians can be interpreted as providing money to a government official, she said.
